It’s been three years since U.K. industry veteran Will Clarke launched Altitude Film Entertainment, and in that time, the production-sales-distribution outfit has learned how to navigate a changing market and, more importantly, established a successful business model to do just that. It’s bringing a number of films to Cannes, including Gemma Arterton and Glenn Close starrer “She Who Brings Gifts”; Vincenzo Natali’s “In the Tall Grass,” based on a novella by Stephen King and Joe Hill; and WWII thriller “Anthropoid,” starring Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy. THE HALLOW (Stanley Film Festival Review)
NEWS
Once in a while, the horror genre just needs a damn good monster movie. Thanks to trends in studio horror, fright fans are often saddled with gritty exploitation-adjacent genre films, minimalist ghost stories or psychologically taxing tales of psychopathia on a regular basis. So when a movie like THE HALLOW comes along, to call it refreshing would be an understatement, especially one as effectively scary and gorgeous as Corin Hardy’s creature feature. ...more
Palio Review
NEWS
Palio observes the annual bareback horse races in the central square of Siena, in which a year’s preparation is devoted to 90 seconds of perilous competition. The doc is a well-shaken cocktail of choreography, colour and corruption. Revelling in the pageantry of the annual races, Cosima Spender’s film should reach audiences for sport and fashion after a tour of festivals and an art house theatrical release. The market in tourism media could also be significant. Although the film is in Italian, much of it is silent, and its overwhelming imagery makes subtitles almost unnecessary. Jarringly violent at times, it could still be a family film - families pack the stands in Siena. ...more

WYRMWOOD is one of 2015's must see horror films
NEWS
This Jolt Cola of a movie from Australia is poised to be the craziest zombie film of 2015. The scenario begins like a (rabid) bat outta hell, as a celestial-spawned apocalypse has ravaged the land with the living dead. A ragtag group of survivors must fend off the ravenous ghouls, as well as mysterious military baddies and a mad scientist with a fondness for KC and the Sunshine Band! Refreshingly, filmmakers Kiah and Tristan Roache-Turner come up with a few new wrinkles for their walking corpses, including telekinesis and the basis for a new gasoline substitute (!). ...more

WYRMWOOD premiere's at Fantastic Fest to rave reviews
NEWS
The zombie movie has been one of the growth industries in the film business in recent years, often getting pretty sophisticated (such as 28 Days Later or World War Z), but it is also a genre that in the right hands works best in its down-and-dirty low-budget origins. And that is exactly what Fantastic Fest offering Wyrmwood has to offer…good old-fashioned body-chomping, head-shooting, zombie action. The film’s Antipodean origins hint at links to George Miller (Mad Max-style features strongly) and Peter Jackson (from his Bad Taste days), but at heart the film is a fearlessly fun and bloody B-movie that mixes up sci-fi-style action with zombie mayhem and comes up with something grungily enjoyable and a smart bit of late-night genre fun. The film premiered at the Austin festival and has also been picked up for international by the UK’s Altitude Film Entertainment. ...more

EuropaCorp buys 'Big Game' for US
NEWS
Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp has acquired U.S. rights to action-adventure “Big Game,” starring Samuel L. Jackson as the president of the United States. EuropaCorp paid near $4 million for the rights to “Big Game,” which premiered in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto Film Festival. “Big Game,” set in Finland, centers on a 13-year-old (Onni Tommila) who embarks on a traditional quest to prove himself by spending 24 hours alone in the wild, when he discovers the escape pod from Air Force One, containing the battered and bruised president of the United States following a terrorist attack. “Big Game” is directed by Jalmari Helander. Production companies are Subzero Film Entertainment, Altitude Film Entertainment Ltd. and Egoli Tossell Film GmbH. Producers are Petri Jokiranta, Will Clarke, Andy Mayson and Jens Meurer. EuropaCorp announced in February that it was forming the RED joint distribution venture for the U.S. with Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity. EuropaCorp partner Christophe Lambert told Variety that “Big Game” had been one of the two movies — along with Chris Rock’s “Top Five” — which had a large commercial appeal. “We had to fight a bidding war to acquire it,” Lambert said. “It’s our first acquisition for RED and it’s a perfect fit for us: it’s a movie packed with action with strong European elements since it’s directed by a Finnish filmmaker and produced by a U.K. company. Jalmari Helander is a very promising director who’s definitely on our radar for future projects. ...more
More rave reviews from Toronto
NEWS
Even before Samuel L. Jackson shows up as President of the United States and braves the Finnish countryside, it's clear that "Big Game" will be a special kind of guilty pleasure. Soaring shots of the great outdoors set to a thundering soundtrack distinguish its opening credits; later, a Finnish hunter sets his 13-year-old son Oskari (Onni Tommila) on a 24-hour solitary hunting excursion. If it seems familiar, that's a good thing: "Big Game" radiates the thrilling atmosphere of an '80s/'90s-era adventure-adventure excursion. Hollywood has abandoned such eager-to-please entertainments for more unwieldy spectacles: "Big Game" is entirely a foreign production. The second feature by Finnish genre director Jalmari Helander, the movie fulfills the promise of his amusing debut "Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale," which involved another child survivor facing the threat of an evil Santa Claus. With its "Cliffhanger"-meets-"Die Hard" vibe, "Big Game" is at once more believable and completely ridiculous. It doesn't take long to set the pieces in motion. Jackson's president is forced to evacuate Air Force One over a Finnish mountain after his plane is shot down by a power-hungry lunatic (Mehmet Kurtulus) and his anonymous minions. Rescued from his escape pod by a perplexed, arrow-wielding Oskari, the leader of the free world joins forces with his newfound young friend to evade terrorist capture — and, naturally, help the little guy overcome his own fears. ...more
First reviews for Big Game at Toronto
NEWS
The leader of the free world is in the hands of a Finnish 13 year-old in Big Game, Jalmari Helander's actioner ranging through the wooded mountains of Northern Finland. If the notion of Samuel L. Jackson playing a U.S. president strikes you as a stretch, your Spidey-sense is working: Despite some fairly impressive production values, this is Cormanesque pulp through and through, with a high-caliber cast — can that really be Jim Broadbent as America's most senior CIA analyst? — barely pretending their roles are for real. Often hilarious and even a tiny bit moving, the romp will clean up on VOD but deserves some theatrical play before that happens. ...more

CATCH ME DADDY Imbues Stunning Tension And Displays Confident Direction This year, Wolfe premiered his debut feature, Catch Me Daddy, at Cannes.
